During the summer vacation, there are countless events across the province. To establish Taipei as Asia’s most LGBTQ+-friendly rainbow city, the city will host its inaugural “Rainbow Market” event on September 2, inviting LGBTQ+ businesses, cultural and art groups, street performers, and other communities to participate together. The event will be jointly held with the weekend creative market at the North Square of Red House. The activities will be divided into a gay men’s literature section, a lesbian culture section, a rainbow market area, and a rainbow art area. On the day of the Rainbow Market, guided tours of installation art will also be offered, with three sessions available—each accepting 30 participants—allowing the public to interact and converse with the artists, helping everyone learn about rainbow culture.

At 3:00 PM on September 2, the film “Sex Alarm” will be screened at the Ximending Zhenshanmei Theater. This film won the Teddy Award at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival. The jury noted that the film presents contemporary issues of LGBTQ+ parenting with a delicate and humorous touch, as well as the intricate complexities of sexuality, relationships, and family intimacy. Admission to the film screening is free. Registration can be made by calling 02-2559-2059 or via the “2012 Taipei LGBTQ+ Citizens’ Activities Facebook Fan Page” (www.facebook.com/rainbowtaipei). Those under 18 are not allowed to enter, and ID will be checked at the venue.

The highlight of the event, the “Rainbow Installation Art Exhibition,” is jointly planned by local businesses in the Red House commercial district of Ximending, Taipei. Combining artistic creativity, it allows the public to gain an in-depth understanding of Taipei’s development as a rainbow city. The exhibition runs from September 2 to September 30 at the South Square of Red House.
