The island near Taiwan — Hainan Island — is rapidly rising as an international tourist destination. Just in Sanya alone, there are over twenty international-grade hotels, including Hilton. Recently, the wedding party of famous celebrity Big S and the filming location of the movie "If You Are the One" were both chosen in Sanya, drawing even more attention to the area. Now, travel operators are offering a 4-day tropical escape package featuring sunshine, beaches, and coconut grove resorts for as low as ¥11,500 (tax included), which is more affordable than domestic travel options.

With its tropical climate and surrounded by sea on all sides, Hainan Island has earned the nickname the “Oriental Hawaii.” The winter season from October to March is also the peak period for Hainan Island, as tourists flock to this tropical island to escape the cold and enjoy a slow-paced holiday by the sun and sand, with visitor numbers comparable to those of other resort countries. Haikou City, the capital of Hainan Province, is also home to the large-scale live performance series "Impression," directed by filmmaker Zhang Yimou — including "Impression·Lijiang" and "Impression·West Lake" — which use stunning local environments as their stages. "Impression·Hainan Island" was also launched in Haikou, where over three hundred performers take the beach and ocean as their stage, putting on a spectacular show every evening.

Thanks to ample flight availability and short flying distances, Chen Guosen, chairman of Shanfu Travel Agency, said that among flights to mainland China, those between Hainan and Taiwan are among the most cost-effective. Affordable airfare also affects tour package pricing. For example, a 5-day trip along Hainan Island’s eastern loop staying at four-star hotels, with no shopping stops, starts at just ¥13,000 per person (tax included). A 5-day tour that includes watching the "Impression·Hainan Island" performance is available for as little as ¥15,900 per person (tax included).
