Located in Meinong District, Kaohsiung, Zhongzheng Lake was built in the 13th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty, boasting a history of nearly 300 years. Here, you can take in the sweeping mountain ridges and crystal-clear lake, while the surrounding plant ecology is lush and vibrant. In addition, from October each year to March of the following year, large numbers of migratory birds—over 60 species—come to rest here, making it an ideal spot for birdwatching and nature appreciation.

Kaohsiung has been featured by international media as one of Asia’s top five cities for cycling. The “Qishan-Meinong Bike and Food Tour” is especially recommended — cycle through the old streets of Qimei with your family, enjoy traditional cuisine, and take in the lake and mountain views by Zhongzheng Lake for a deeply satisfying experience.

The Kaohsiung City Government takes advantage of the annual fallow period for farmland to sow colorful plants such as cosmos, zinnias, and sunflowers in districts including Qishan, Meinong, Shanlin, and Qiaotou. The floral splendor is now in full bloom, continuing until the end of March.

Situated northeast of Zhongzheng Lake, the Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum was established in 2001 and is one of the area’s landmarks. It preserves local Hakka culture and history. The building features a tobacco barn design and a traditional courtyard layout, using fair-faced concrete to reflect the simplicity and honesty of the local people.
