What do women hope to receive most on Valentine’s Day? It’s a question that puzzles many men. As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Taipei City Government’s “2012 Taipei Shopping Card” has launched its first “Valentine’s Day Featured Merchants,” featuring 39 selected stores based on online voting results about what women prefer to receive on Valentine’s Day—such as accessories, Valentine’s meals, afternoon tea, and desserts. Cardholders can enjoy special offers at these merchants.

For accessories, the brand Lucy's, beloved by many celebrities, is offering a free colorful jelly bracelet with any purchase on August 18 and 19 when you present your Taipei Shopping Card, with no minimum spend required. The affordable, self-designed watch brand Sen Shi Watches, which insists on using Japanese movements and Taiwanese design with an emphasis on style and quality, is offering a 30% discount on all watches with the card (valid until August 31), as well as 20% off multiple international brands.

Food and beverage merchants include the “Fuh Jun Hai Yue Hotel,” which offers a free French spring chicken with king oyster mushroom and red wine sauce set meal (original price NT$638) for the second person when two people dine together using the card. For those who enjoy Japanese BBQ or izakaya, “Akuen Yakitori” offers a free red wine sour with any purchase using the card, and its NT$6,000 tomahawk steak is available at a special price of NT$1,500 with the card. Popular mango shaved ice “Mango Cha Cha,” enjoyed even by NBA star Jeremy Lin during his visit to Taiwan, offers a free large cup of mango juice for purchases over NT$500 with the card. The uniquely named ice cream café “Emei Ice Fruit Café” offers a free pudding when you spend NT$100 or more on ice cream with the card, plus just NT$1 more.

The “Taipei Shopping Card” is a promotional campaign continuously offered by the Taipei City Government this year. Starting today (the 16th), you can log onto the official website, fill in the information, and print the shopping card, or scan the QR code at participating merchants and then visit the official website to download it. Register your purchase receipts on the website to receive merchant discount coupons, with a monthly draw for a new HTC smartphone, and a chance to win a million-dollar grand prize at the end of the campaign. From August 18, you can collect physical cards at Taipei Underground Mall Administrative Center, RT-Mart SOGO participating merchants, Ximending event sites, and Lion Travel North, North-Taipei, and Keelung branches.
