The 2012 “Penghu Marathon” will be held on November 24 at Penghu Guanyin Pavilion. Participants will face the challenge of strong northeast monsoons with winds reaching up to Force 7, making it one of the most challenging marathon events in the country. The event is divided into four categories: full marathon, half marathon, short-distance run, and public fun walk. The full marathon route will pass famous sights such as Zhongtun Wind Turbines and the Penghu Cross-Sea Bridge. Trophies, commemorative medals, and certificates will be awarded to winners in each category, with the first-place finisher in the full marathon receiving a prize of NT$30,000. Registration is open from now until October 25.

The Penghu Marathon has been held for many years and differs from other marathons around Taiwan in that it is specifically scheduled for winter, when the northeast monsoon winds are at their strongest. Participants will face winds of up to Force 7, making it a significant test of endurance and determination. Each year, it attracts numerous domestic and international runners who are passionate about long-distance running and self-challenge.
The event includes a full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.0975 km), short-distance run (10 km), and public fun walk (5 km). The full marathon starts at Guanyin Pavilion, proceeds along County Highway 203, passes through the Zhongtun Wind Turbines in Baisha Township, crosses the Penghu Cross-Sea Bridge, turns back via the Tongliang Ancient Banyan Tree, then returns via Wada to County Highway 203, with the finish line also at Guanyin Pavilion. Registration is open from now until October 25. Registration fees are NT$600 for the full marathon, NT$500 for the half marathon, NT$300 for the short-distance run, and a NT$200 deposit for the public fun walk.
