Ao-Ku Wetland is one of Taiwan’s major coastal wetlands featuring a composite ecosystem of ocean, estuary, marsh, lake, forest, and farmland. It is also an important habitat and stopover site for migratory and water birds along Taiwan’s southwestern coast. On a typical day, it hosts a variety of woodland, water, and resident birds, but during winter, it sees an influx of migratory birds from the north, making it peak season for birdwatching and turning it into one of Taiwan’s most renowned birdwatching destinations. According to the latest survey this July, as many as 245 species across 52 bird families have been recorded here, including rare and protected species such as the black-winged kite, little tern, and black-faced spoonbill. To help the public learn more about the Ao-Ku Wetland Forest Park, starting from November 4, the Forestry Bureau will hold seven sessions of the “First Encounter with Ao-Ku Wetland Forest Park” activity, giving participants a chance to experience eco-friendly tourism and appreciate the beauty of Ao-Ku.

The “First Encounter with Ao-Ku Wetland Forest Park” activities will be held on November 4, November 10, December 1, December 15, December 29, and January 12 and 26 of next year. Each session can accommodate up to 80 participants, with a minimum of 15 required to proceed. The activity takes place at the Ao-Ku Wetland Forest Park, with the itinerary beginning at 8:10 AM and concluding at 5:30 PM. The program also includes locally sourced eco-friendly meals prepared by community mothers, as well as guided visits to view migratory birds in the wetland. The participation fee is NT$200 per person (covering transportation, guide fees, lunch, accident insurance, and other costs). Registration is now open on-site.
