The 2012 Hsinchu City Veterans Village Arts Festival is set to kick off tomorrow (the 27th). At 10:00 AM on the day of the event, an opening ceremony will be held in front of the Black Bat Squadron Memorial Museum. In addition to military band performances, a chorus by hundreds of veterans’ village mothers, and community dance performances, there will also be a “Stars of the 1970s Reunion,” featuring veteran singers and bands such as Yin Zhengyang, Wu Xiuju, Yan Heting, and Cai Yihong. There will also be an invoice exchange for food activity, with a total of one thousand servings of Xuzhou sesame twists, Shandong pancakes, and other veterans’ village delicacies available for the public to sample.

On the 27thplanned“Taste of Happiness vs. Veterans Village Delicacies” charity bazaar will offer 1,000 servings of veterans’ village cuisine including Xuzhou sesame twists, Shandong pancakes, chive dumplings, mainland cakes, Fuzhou buns, spicy sausages, scallion pancakes, and steamed twisted rolls for the public to enjoy. Visitors can exchange two invoices from September or October for one serving of food. The site will also feature street performers, fun-shaped balloons, creative weaving, eco-DIY, yarn doll crafts, and portrait sketching.
From now until December 30th, the “Veterans Village Themed Special Exhibition – Dreams of Patriotism and Prosperity” will also be held at the Veterans Village Museum, showcasing patriotic prize bonds issued by the government between the years 39 and 76 of the Republic of China (1950–1987) to raise funds for economic development. These bonds featured themes of military defense and national celebrations, offering a glimpse into the daily lives, economic conditions, and social trends of veterans’ village residents at the time. As for the “Veterans Village Cinema,” from November 6 to 13 at the Image Museum, eleven classic films themed around veterans’ village culture will be screened, including “Good Country, Good People,” “Banana Paradise,” and “Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land.”
Additionally, in celebration of the third anniversary of the establishment of the Black Bat Squadron Memorial Museum, a commemorative picture book titled “The Secret of the Airplane” will be published. On November 24 at 14:00, at the Treasure Rabbit Pavilion of the Hsinchu City Cultural Affairs Bureau Library, the library’s story moms will read stories and share the heroic tales of the Black Bat Squadron, taking children into the mysterious world of top-secret missions.
