In Thailand, there are plenty of fun and exciting activities to celebrate the arrival of the new year every year, including concerts, live stage performances, fireworks shows, as well as the traditional practice of visiting Thai temples to pray. Thai people believe that praying at temples can bless the new year with a good start, bringing happiness and good luck.

Bangkok is one of the most lively and bustling cities in Thailand to celebrate the New Year. Countless countdown events take place on every street and alley, but the biggest and most vibrant New Year’s Eve party is held along the Ratchaprasong road in the main shopping and business district. Renowned Thai singers take turns performing on stage, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. The crowd welcomes the new year together amid cheerful countdown cheers.
In Chiang Rai, locals gather at the Chaloem Phrakiat bell tower in the city center to celebrate the new year in traditional Lanna style — releasing sky lanterns, enjoying light and sound shows, folk cultural performances, and witnessing magnificent fireworks. Meanwhile, in Udon Ratchathani Province, the countdown takes place at Amphone Khong Chiam. Visitors can admire dazzling light displays and parades along the Mekong Riverbank, alongside other folk cultural performances such as the unique northeastern traditional Bai Si Ritual ceremony. The highlight of the event is heading to Thailand’s easternmost point, Pha Chana Dai, to release water lanterns and welcome the first sunrise of the new year. In Hua Hin, a royal getaway destination, residents and tourists alike enjoy various live music performances, including jazz, bossa nova, and easy listening, ringing in the countdown amidst soothing melodies.
