The Taitung County Taimali Township New Year’s Eve party and the event to welcome the first light of 2013 were held at the Taimali Dawn Memorial Park. The activities ran from 8:00 PM on December 31, 2011, to 11:00 AM on January 1, 2012. Taimali Township’s New Year and dawn-welcoming events have been held for many consecutive years, and the 2000 event to greet the first light of the new millennium once attracted tens of thousands of tourists and guests from various countries, thus gaining great fame. The Millennium Dawn Memorial Park was listed as a top-quality pilgrimage site for visitors. You can stand under the pavilion in the Millennium Dawn Park or stroll along the beach, gazing at the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean and taking in the vast seascape.

All participants in this event will receive a souvenir “sun flying disc.” The event includes indigenous song and dance performances, performances by popular bands, New Year’s Eve countdown, fireworks display, lucky draw activities, stargazing experiences, traditional and wind instrument performances, the dawn-welcoming flag-raising ceremony, release of prayer balloons, beach cleanup, and beach parasailing performances. It also features the second edition of the bikini beach run. To encourage camping enthusiasts to camp in Taimali Township, the first 300 tents pitched in the Taimali Millennium Memorial Park before December 31, 2011, will receive a NT$300 discount voucher per tent upon registration at the service desk during the event. There will also be exhibitions and sales of local agricultural specialties, traditional indigenous cuisine, and indigenous handicrafts on-site.
Taimali Township Chief Cheng Zhengjun stated that through this New Year’s Eve and dawn-welcoming event, the township hopes to attract visitors from across the country. In addition to the exciting series of New Year events, he also recommends visiting Jinchishan Mountain to watch the sunrise and enjoy the sea of clouds, or heading to Jingu Hot Springs for a relaxing soak.
