Due to continuous heavy rain on the 14th that caused landslides and disrupted traffic on the Su-Hua Highway, Taiwan Railways has added extra services to ease transportation. Meanwhile, hotels in eastern Taiwan, Taiwan sightseeing bus companies, and Dongyuan Hot Springs in Taitung are all offering great deals. Among them, the Hualien County Hotel Association and the Homestay Association have jointly launched campaigns for spring travel to Hualien, including discounts on accommodation and lucky draws, with the top prize being a car. The aim is to attract visitors to use public transport to travel to Hualien.

Starting from New Year’s Day, aside from the county government’s “2012 Love Hualien Countdown Party,” the East Rift Valley Office of the Tourism Bureau has also introduced the “Discover Happiness, Have Fun in Luye” tour route, while the East Coast Office has organized events such as welcoming the first sunrise. The Hualien County Hotel Association is offering an event from January 1 to 31, 2013, where guests staying at member hotels and spending over NT$1,000 can get a lottery ticket at the train station’s tourist service center. For every NT$1,000 spent, one lottery ticket is awarded, and for every NT$2,000, two tickets are given, and so on. Prizes include domestic cars, 3C products, and accommodation vouchers. The Hualien County Homestay Association is giving out around 100 bags of high-quality Hualien rice daily at the train station throughout January. Travelers can get a free bag of quality rice by showing their homestay receipt. Guests can also enter a draw for a free homestay voucher for their next visit, as well as other major prizes such as tablets and LCD TVs. Taiwan sightseeing buses are offering a NT$200 cash discount on all Taroko Insight Tours, Cultural & Wellness Tours, and Valley Farming Experience Tours from January 1 to March 31, 2013.
Businesses such as key hotels, restaurants, and art shops in the Zhiben Hot Springs area are actively offering discounts to passengers of Dingdong Bus’s Mountain Line. Starting December 1, those holding a same-day bus ticket, a Dingdong Mountain Line commuter or student pass, or the Hualien County Government’s Happiness Free Card can enjoy discounts when visiting spots like Zhiben Hot Springs, Fuyeh Hot Springs Resort, Loyal Palace Hotel Zhiben, Zhiben Tongmao Hot Springs Hotel, Koyo Grand Hotel, Hongquan Hot Springs Resort, Yixuan Hotel, Dongyouji Hot Springs Resort, Zhiben Hot Springs Forest Recreation Area, and Tiehua Village. The Tourism Bureau stated that the Su-Hua Highway is expected to reopen to passenger cars by December 31, to 20-ton medium-sized buses before Lunar New Year, and to large buses after the Spring Festival.
