With just five days left until the countdown party begins, events across various counties and cities are gearing up. This year, in addition to the festivities in Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County is hosting the “Welcome 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Hsinchu County” countdown event, which will take place from 6:00 PM on December 31 to 1:00 AM on January 1, 2013, at the plaza in front of Hsinchu County Government. The evening will feature a classic hits concert, performances by popular idols such as A-Lin and the Wan Fu Band, a spectacular music and fireworks show, as well as lucky draws—with the grand prize being a car.

To welcome the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, Hsinchu County has themed its countdown event as “Welcome 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Hsinchu County.” On the day of the event, a lighting ceremony will be held to illuminate Guangming 6th Road, marking the official start of the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival. As for the program, this year’s event will be hosted by Wang Kaidi, Xing Han, and Xu Ziyen, with performances by various artist groups. It will kick off with the “Old Love Lingers” classic hits concert, featuring performances of timeless classics by Xie Yuwei, Guan Cong, Xia Baihe, Liu Fuzhu, vocalists Lü Lili, Lin Huizhen, Chen Zhongyi, and Wang Dian. This will be followed by performances from artists including Shin (former lead singer of Shin Band), A-Lin, Wang Caihua, Huang Hongsheng, Xiao Yu, Guan Shimin, Wan Fu Band, and 4ever, along with a county-government-organized countdown music fireworks show. The event will be broadcast live on Dongfeng TV from 9:00 PM to 12:30 AM, and can also be watched via live stream on the official website of Hsinchu County Government.
In addition to performances and fireworks, this year’s event will also feature lucky draws with prizes including cars, iPads 2, smartphones, and bicycles. The event will offer 5,000 fluorescent cheering sticks and 30,000 lucky draw tickets for exchange. Attendees can exchange one invoice from November to December 2011 for either a fluorescent stick or a lucky draw ticket. All collected invoices will be donated in full to charitable organizations in Hsinchu County.
After enjoying the exciting countdown event, the public can also participate in the New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony at 8:00 AM on January 1, 2013, in front of Hsinchu County Government Plaza. This year’s ceremony will feature performances by local Hakka, indigenous, new immigrant, and sports groups. Additionally, starting at 7:00 AM, 2,000 limited-edition national flag scarves will be distributed, and every participant will receive a small national flag.
