Tainan City will hold the “2013 Tainan Winter Hot Air Balloon Carnival” series of tethered hot air balloon experiences at Zouma Lake Farm from January 19 to February 17, spanning 30 consecutive days. In addition, there will be a winter hot air balloon camp, with main courses including an introduction to basic hot air balloon knowledge, hands-on tethered ascension operations, and flight experiences. The camp is divided into one-day and two-day options. A hot air balloon light and music show will also take place every Saturday evening (except February 10) from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with a total of five sessions. Various hot air balloons will combine with fireworks, lasers, lighting effects, and live music for a dazzling audiovisual experience.

Tainan Mayor Lai Qingde stated that this “2013 Tainan Winter Hot Air Balloon Carnival,” funded entirely by private sources, provides a major tourism event for Tainan during this year’s winter vacation and Lunar New Year holiday. Taking a hot air balloon flight over Zouma Lake offers views of the unique lunar-like white chalk terrain. Additionally, the series of events span 30 days, covering both winter vacation and the Lunar New Year holiday, so residents of Tainan and visitors from all over Taiwan are welcome to join in. The tethered hot air balloon experience lasts five minutes per person and costs NT$500. Each day, 500–800 spots will be available on-site, divided into three time slots: 7:00–9:00 AM, 11:00 AM–12:30 PM, and 3:30–5:30 PM (on February 9, only the morning session is available). The “2013 Tainan Winter Hot Air Balloon Carnival” series also features a ground display and demonstration of a million-dollar glider, with explanations given by the pilot on-site. The glider has a wingspan of 16 meters, holds the world record for a single non-stop flight of up to 15 hours, and can reach altitudes of 14,950 meters. There will also be the most romantic hot air balloon proposals and weddings. Other exciting activities include a hot air balloon cultural and creative museum, a hot air balloon history museum, a fun balloon pavilion, a Chinese and Western food street, a local specialty product sale, souvenirs, a family fun castle, and a 3D motion flight cinema.
