During the long winter break, besides traveling or hanging out with friends for karaoke, there’s another unique way to enjoy the outdoors. The “Gallop & Gust – Houli Equestrian Rush” equestrian experience camp, organized by the Taichung City Committee of the Rescue Corps, will be held on January 31 and February 1 at the Houli Horse Farm in Taichung. The camp program includes foundational equestrian training, gradually allowing participants to freely ride and enjoy the fun of horseback riding. Registration is open now until January 25, and is open to all high school and vocational school students nationwide. The cost is 2,560 NTD per person.

The Taichung City Committee further explained that the “Gallop & Gust – Houli Equestrian Rush” equestrian experience camp will trial one two-day, one-night session on January 31 and February 1, with a limit of 40 participants. Students from high school and vocational schools nationwide are eligible, and additional sessions may be added depending on actual registration numbers. During the two-day, one-night program, under the guidance of nationally certified instructors hired by the Taichung Equestrian Committee, participants will first learn about horses’ basic behaviors. Training will start with foundational equestrian skills, mounting and dismounting, and proper riding posture, gradually advancing to riding techniques. Once participants acquire the basics, they’ll be allowed to freely ride and enjoy the experience. Those who complete the course and pass the assessment will receive a training completion certificate, earning a valuable skill certification beyond academics.

A co-organizer, the Taichung Equestrian Committee, noted that equestrianism has traditionally been considered an aristocratic sport. However, its nobility doesn’t lie in exclusivity, but in its unique character. Unlike other sports, equestrianism isn’t just about physical strength, intelligence, or technique — it involves interacting with another living being, requiring wisdom, patience, courage, and compassion. Given the specialized nature of this activity, individuals with heart conditions, asthma, epilepsy, or those unfit for strenuous activity are advised not to participate. To register, contact the Taichung City Committee of the Rescue Corps at 04-2234-8291 ext. 36 (speak to Li Junde).
