To serve citizens doing their pre-New Year shopping and capitalize on the huge Lunar New Year goods market, the 2013 New Taipei Colorful Lunar New Year Goods Market will open for eight consecutive days starting February 1 at the Civic Plaza of the New Taipei City Government. This year’s market gathers Lunar New Year goods, local gifts, agricultural and fishery products, flowers, food, and cultural specialty items. On the opening day, February 1, there will be a 50% off special sale on local gifts, with 100 boxes of gifts all sold at half price to the public. A premium Buddha Jumps Over the Wall dish originally priced at NT$1,280 can be purchased for just NT$640.

Additionally, the agricultural and fishery products and flower section offers fresh fruits and vegetables, organic farm produce, and specially selected items from various New Taipei City agricultural and fishery associations, giving citizens more affordable and reassuring choices. The specially planned cultural specialty goods section invites vendors from Hakka, indigenous, and Korean backgrounds, making the overall product range even more colorful and diverse, allowing citizens to purchase Lunar New Year goods with different cultural characteristics.
During the event period, three “good fortune” activities—“Good Joy,” “Good Blessing,” and “Good Wealth”—are also planned to boost shopping enthusiasm. For “Good Joy,” shoppers who spend NT$500 or more can exchange for a New Year’s good-luck gift set, which includes a “Year of Abundance” shopping bag and a “Blessed Vegetable” good-luck radish, limited to 1,000 sets per day. It is estimated that 8,000 radishes will be given away over the 8-day event. Additionally, those spending NT$500 or more can also exchange for a raffle ticket to participate in the “Good Blessing” lucky draw, with daily prizes including an HTC Butterfly smartphone and New Year gift bags, among 50 other awards. Meanwhile, the “Good Wealth” activity will distribute 1,000 “prosperity money” envelopes from Zhonghe’s Hōng-lôo-tē Temple on February 2.
The 2013 New Taipei Colorful Lunar New Year Goods Market will run from February 1 to February 8, daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with February 8 closing at 6:00 PM. The venue also offers special home delivery deals, with more information available on the websites of the New Taipei City Department of Agriculture or Department of Economic Development.
