To develop the Aogu Wetlands Forest Park into an ecotourism destination with environmental education significance, the Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau commissioned a professional team to implement the “Aogu Wetlands Forest Park Ecotourism Promotion and Counseling Project.” After eight months of guide training, 21 local residents passed the examination and were officially certified on January 29 at the park service center (Dongshi Nature Ecology Exhibition Hall). This marks the establishment of the park’s official ecotourism interpretation service team, which is now open for public tour reservations.

The Aogu Wetlands is Taiwan’s only large coastal wetland that is not affected by tides and has been designated under the Wildlife Conservation Act as an Important Wildlife Habitat. It provides abundant food sources and a safe, undisturbed habitat for wildlife—especially migratory waterbirds. The park’s diverse landscapes, including farmland, woods, grass marshes, tidal flats, and expansive waters, create varied habitats that attract around 250 species of wild birds, such as black-winged kites, black kites, ospreys, and various other land and water birds, which reside here in different seasons. The number of bird species exceeds 40% of Taiwan’s total bird population. Visitors can easily observe the diverse behaviors of waterbirds from the flood control road. As a result, the Aogu Wetlands is not only a must-visit spot for birdwatchers in Taiwan but also an essential destination for international birding professionals.

In addition to helping group visitors plan their itineraries, the Aogu Wetlands Forest Park Ecotourism Interpretation Service Team also offers paid guided tours. Each guide is a locally trained and certified interpreter by the Chiayi Forest District Office, capable of leading visitors to deeply appreciate the natural ecological landscape of the Aogu Wetlands as well as the cultural charm of surrounding communities. Those interested in booking a guided tour can call Ms. Tsai at 0919-699-857.
