Sun Moon Lake, the most popular tourist attraction in Nantou County, not only boasts beautiful mountain, forest, and lake scenery, but its ever-changing dawn and dusk colors have also made it a pilgrimage site for photography enthusiasts. From now until May 30th, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration has invited the Tou She Cultural and Historical Exploration Association to curate the first quarter exhibition of the 2013 Mountain Gallery at the Alishan Visitor Center. The exhibition invites photography enthusiasts from nearby areas such as Tou She, Yuchi, Puli, and Shueili to participate in the joint "Colorful Rhythm of Sun Moon Lake" photography exhibition. The exhibited works capture the fleeting and ever-changing colorful beauty of Sun Moon Lake that photographers usually chase around its shores. Visitors can enjoy the dawn and dusk views of Sun Moon Lake without having to wake up extremely early or rush to the lakeside before sunset.

The photography exhibition is open daily from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The photographs were taken at locations such as the Alishan Visitor Center, the Water Outlet, the Shuishe Dam, the Hanbi Peninsula, the Zhaowu Wharf, and the Cien Tower. Among them, the Alishan Visitor Center’s architecture blends into the landscape, using scenic framing to bring the beautiful lake and mountain views into visitors’ sightlines. The Water Outlet, located one kilometer in front of the Alishan Visitor Center, features two landmark trees in the foreground. At dawn, sunlight spills over the clear lake like molten glass, and the sky glows with radiant hues that spill onto the lake surface, dyeing the water golden, complemented by the brilliance of the clouds. The Shuishe Dam is flanked by lush green grass, offering an exceptionally beautiful view and encompassing the waters of two lakes, making it one of the most picturesque spots on the lake.

This “Colorful Rhythm of Sun Moon Lake” photography joint exhibition features a total of nine exhibitors, each presenting six works, with the content primarily showcasing the scenery of the Sun Moon Lake area. (Image provided by Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration)

Along the Hanbi Trail, you’ll pass by yacht mooring docks or the four-handed fishing nets by the lake. When mist rolls in, a thin fog locks in the vastness, with the four-handed net standing out alone, delicately capturing the sounds of birds—a scene full of poetic charm. The Zhaowu Wharf is often shrouded in fog in the early morning, with mist drifting out from Jiulongkou, swirling along the mountains and lake surfaces. Sometimes it appears like an ink-wash painting, other times a bright white cloud band floats above the mountainside, resembling a landscape painting from a traditional Chinese ink artwork, a heavenly scene on earth. The Cien Tower is the best spot to overlook the panoramic views of Sun Moon Lake’s lake and mountain scenery. The most beautiful times are early morning and sunset, sometimes rich and vivid like heavy ink, other times freehand like splashed ink. The highest state of appreciation here is when the mountains are no longer just mountains, and the waters are no longer just waters.
