Here's another exciting weekend family activity to add to your calendar — the “2013 Taichung Cultural Shuttle – New Artistic Taichung” has officially launched, brought to life through the vivid storytelling of the Taichung Sheng Wuzhou Puppet Troupe and the Hurricane Extreme Dance Group. Hop on the cultural shuttle to explore the art and culture facilities scattered across Taichung’s mountainous, coastal, Tuen Mun, and urban districts, and embark on a holiday adventure through the city’s rich artistic resources. Roam the Taichung art and culture map — the first batch of activities this year will open for registration from 9:00 AM on March 18 (Monday) to 5:00 PM on March 20 (Wednesday).

To promote the concept of user-pays and encourage the public to value these limited spots, this year’s cultural shuttle activities charge a nominal fee of NT$100. This fee is directly reinvested into enhancing the experience — in addition to an art DIY session on every trip, there will also be a performing arts experience. It’s truly great value for money. Moreover, to encourage multigenerational family outings, especially among seniors, eight special trips have been reserved for senior-family groups, allowing families to bond over shared cultural experiences.
The 2013 Taichung Cultural Shuttle – New Artistic Taichung features two batches and eight art & culture tour routes, including “Jazz It Up,” “Traditional Art Fun,” “Hands-On Creative Culture,” “Artistic Hakka Village,” “Toy Carnival,” “East-West Musical Journey,” “Kick Up Your Heels,” and “The World of Pastry Art.”
From March to October, in addition to weekly departures every Saturday, special Sunday trips are added during the July–August summer vacation period. Each route departs from one of the four cultural centers in Taichung, visiting local cultural venues, artistic highlights, historic buildings and monuments, artists’ studios, craft homes, and community-building spots. These tours allow participants to experience the rich and fascinating art and culture resources across Taichung’s mountainous, coastal, Tuen Mun, and urban districts — such as Huashan Kiln, Zhongxin Art Village, Sunlight Hall Old Shop, Magic Balloon School, and the Taichung Tap Dance Troupe, all of which are uniquely distinctive cultural sites.
