Tea was the first agricultural product from Taiwan to make contact with the West, and the tea industry is an important part of Taiwan’s economy. With over 150 years of tea-drinking culture, Taiwan’s renowned teas have been gaining global recognition in recent years. In addition, newly emerging fashionable teas that blend innovative flavors and creative brewing methods have added even more diversity and vibrancy to Taiwan’s tea culture.

The National Museum of Natural Science launched the special exhibition “Tea-Scented Taiwan” on January 9th. The exhibition covers the development of tea cultures in both the East and the West, the history of Taiwanese tea, tea plantations, tea plant varieties, tea production, tea brewing, and tea drinking methods. It also displays a precious collection of historic tea utensils, and introduces fascinating topics such as “Tea and Health” and “Tea and Zen.” Since its opening, the exhibition has received widespread praise and acclaim.

Starting in March, three special series of weekend “Tea and Community Experience” tea lifestyle workshops suitable for families have also been planned. These programs adopt an educational yet fun and interactive approach, and are led by professional tea masters from the Lugu Township Farmers’ Association Life Tea Club, Yuchi Township Farmers’ Association Sun Moon Tea Club, Zhushan Tea Ceremony Association, and Songling Tea Art Culture Association. Participants can enjoy highlights such as “Tasting Taiwan’s Top Ten Specialty Teas,” “Tea Ceremony Performances,” “Tea Aroma Sensory Experience (Tea-Infused Six Senses),” and “DIY Black Tea Rolling and Processing.”
In addition to sampling Taiwan’s top ten specialty teas and learning about how to select quality tea and the essentials of brewing, participants can also gain a deeper appreciation of the essence and aroma of Taiwanese tea culture. Due to limited spots, daily activities require on-site registration. Tea enthusiasts are welcome to join in savoring the fragrance of tea and admiring the beauty of tea artistry.
