From now until May 5th, the Yingge Ceramics Museum is presenting the “Taiwan xX Voice – Lin Tianfu’s 88 Ceramics Solo Exhibition” in the Sunshine Special Exhibition Room on the first floor. Lin Tianfu, the founder of the Zhunan Snake Kiln, has been immersed in traditional ceramic artistry for 75 years. Mastering a wide range of ceramic techniques, his solid skills have earned widespread admiration, and he is respectfully referred to as “Teacher Tianfu.” Since turning 81, he has held solo exhibitions, and this marks his eighth. The current exhibition will also feature his latest creations.

This solo exhibition displays nearly two years of brand-new works by Teacher Lin Tianfu, fired using the wood-fired technique at over 1,500 degrees Celsius by his son, Lin Ruihua, who is also a ceramic artist. This process gives the pieces a naturally radiant texture. Among them, the “Longevity Fortune Vase” takes the form of an early-style foot warmer, enhanced by his unique openwork technique. Its clean, flowing lines and finely detailed chrysanthemum patterns make it truly one of a kind. The “Pearl Jade Grinding Bowl,” meanwhile, was a household essential in earlier times for grinding sweet potato or cassava starch. Teacher Lin has specially recreated this traditional vessel and carving method. Such bowls are almost no longer made today, and they are skillfully carved using only a bamboo knife—an extraordinary level of craftsmanship that once attracted Japanese ceramic artists to observe.

Lin Tianfu’s works transform traditional everyday pottery into pieces with a distinctly personal style. His ceramics are a true reflection of the man—free from any trace of craftiness, and lacking the ornate, meticulously carved finesse of conventional artistry. Each piece embodies his lifelong traits of kindness, optimism, and contentment, conveying a warm sense of Taiwanese folk culture and the honest, unadorned beauty of traditional folk pottery. The natural elegance, grace, and fluidity of his work shine through effortlessly.
