The “2013 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” opens grandly at Fulong Beach from May 4 to June 30. On the opening day, May 4, visitors can enter free of charge before 12:00 noon. This year’s Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival has specially invited over 20 internationally renowned “sand artists” from 16 countries including Japan, the Netherlands, the UK, Mexico, Spain, Ireland, and Canada to participate in an international invitational competition in Taiwan. They are currently creating their works on Fulong Beach, with around 10 pieces themed on childhood memories already completed. These include Japanese sand sculptor Hirohiko Hosaka, who has participated in the event for four consecutive years, carving a traditional Japanese kite; Dutch female sand sculptor Marjon Katerberg, who depicts the memory of riding a bicycle with her brother as a child in her sculpture; and Canadian Jonathan Bouchard, who created a unique scene of building a snowman in the northern country.

Each work in the “2013 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” reflects the childhood memories of the sculptors from various countries. A total of 77 domestic and international sand sculptures have been created this year, setting a record for both scale and quantity. This includes 20 international competition pieces, 25 international creative display pieces, 20 domestic competition pieces, and 12 domestic creative display pieces, guaranteeing a visual feast for all visitors this year. For instance, themes such as the box-office hit film “David Loman” from this year’s Spring Festival season, internationally acclaimed director Ang Lee—who just won four Oscars for “Life of Pi”—and global sensation PSY, known for his viral “Gangnam Style” horse dance, will also serve as creative inspirations for sand sculptors, appearing on Fulong Beach as homages to their real-life counterparts. This summer, Fulong Beach will not only feature sun-kissed beauties in bikinis, but also 77 impressive sand sculptures that will leave visitors amazed and enthralled.

During the event period, “Furama Resort Fulong” is also offering a special “Come and Experience the Sand Sculpture Art Festival” accommodation package. In May (Sunday to Friday), a deluxe double room is priced at NT$4,299 and a deluxe quadruple room at NT$5,899; in June (Sunday to Thursday), a deluxe double room is NT$5,699 and a deluxe quadruple room is NT$7,899.
