From the NT$30 million price tag for Takeshi Kaneshiro’s appearance and his mature-guy persona that captured audience attention, to the ad’s filming spots – besides Paris, France and Nara, Japan, the final outdoor location shown at the end of the ad—Browner Boulevard in Chishang, Taitung—features pristine and beautiful countryside scenery. Not only has its popularity soared, but with the recent hot air balloon carnival craze in Taitung, visitor numbers have increased by 20% in a short period. As the summer vacation and peak travel season approach, the number of visitors is expected to rise even further.

Browner Boulevard is located in Chishang Township, Taitung County. It’s a rural road without any power poles, offering especially clear and expansive views. In 2006the Browner Coffee ad was filmed here, and the endless rice paddies left a deep impression, leading to its name “Browner Boulevard.” In recent years, road signs have been erected so visitors can clearly know they’ve arrived at this beautiful, idyllic field road. Lush green rice paddies in spring and summer are especially refreshing, while in summer and autumn, when the fields begin to turn golden yellow, they offer a completely different charm.

At the end of the ad, the scene of Takeshi Kaneshiro resting and drinking tea under a big tree—located at the end of Browner Boulevard, known as the Road to Heaven—has made that round, adorable tree an instant hit. It has become a favorite spot for visitors to take photos and even recreate Takeshi Kaneshiro’s moment of resting and sipping tea under the tree. Some netizens even joke about renaming Browner Boulevard to “Takeshi Kaneshiro Boulevard.” Thanks to the ad’s impact, the beauty of Chishang in Taitung has not only drawn attention from Taiwanese people, but with the global airing of the ad and online shares, it has once again put Taitung’s scenery on the map.
