The “2013 Taipei Dadaocheng Music and Fireworks Festival” concluded successfully last Saturday (the 10th) evening, with the Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra’s affiliated wind ensemble performing alongside a spectacular fireworks show. It is estimated that 250,000 people from Taipei City and 110,000 from New Taipei City attended, totaling around 360,000 attendees.

The Taipei Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival has been held for nine years. This year, aside from the usual eye-catching fireworks, two unprecedented innovations were introduced: first, the live performance of fireworks music by the Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra’s affiliated wind ensemble, and second, the specially composed piece “Fire Dance” for the fireworks over the Zhongxiao Bridge, which will become the theme music for future Taipei Dadaocheng Fireworks Festivals.

The fireworks display that evening kicked off with the “Ode to Joy” movement played by the Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra’s affiliated wind ensemble. Shooting fireworks streaked across the sky and extended to the riverside secondary stage, ushering in a series of stunning fireworks shows. First up was the 720-meter-long Zhongxiao Bridge Rainbow Waterfall Fireworks, accompanied by the genre-blending “Fire Dance” of EDM and classical music. The non-stop fireworks over the bridge and river, combined with performances by the wind ensemble and DJ on stage, created an overwhelmingly thrilling atmosphere. This was followed by the ballet piece “Bacchanale,” which added even more joy to the event, with multi-angle colorful bouquet fireworks and various light bead fireworks illuminating the entire Dadaocheng river surface. After nearly eight minutes of breathtaking effects, various rising-tail fireworks lit up the Taipei night sky, paired with a rearranged version of the Dadaocheng classic song “Longing for the Spring Breeze” by Li Linqiu and Deng Yu-xian, evoking many memories among the attendees.

What's nextThe distinctly rhythmic Irish song “Lord of the Dance” acted like a metronome, with fireworks forming diverse geometric patterns in the air in time with the music, leaving the audience amazed. This year’s most romantic feature, the “Lover’s Rain” (also known as Golden Rain) fireworks, were specially paired with the music “Carmina Burana.” The golden rain filling the sky, together with the majestic wind ensemble piece, made the entire Dadaocheng area resemble a classical and magnificent palace. Finally, the water fan chrysanthemum burst fireworks, various aerial fireworks, and the joyful “Galliard Dance” brought the entire fireworks show to its climax. A show that excelled in quality, visuals, and sound gave the public a happier and more memorable summer night.
