The Mid-Autumn long weekend will begin this Thursday. Are you planning to start your “Mid-Autumn BBQ marathon” with an evening cookout in a local park right after work on Wednesday? However, parks in both Taipei and Taichung have relevant rules, and open-air grilling is not allowed everywhere. For those in Taipei and Taichung looking to enjoy a nighttime outdoor BBQ, consider heading to one of the following riverside parks and public spaces that allow grilling—but you’ll need to move fast, as good spots fill up quickly. In Kaohsiung, where grilling in parks and green spaces is prohibited, residents might want to fire up the grill at home or in community courtyards, and maybe take some time to see the yellow duck appearing at Glory Pier during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

BBQ-permitted areas in Taipei’s riverside parks:
1. Yanping Riverside Park: Riverbank area between the Dadaocheng Bicycle Rental Station and the basketball court (excluding the bike lane area)
2. Huazhong Riverside Park: Designated area in the circular plaza on the downstream side of Huazhong Bridge
3. Machangting Riverside Park: Designated area in Machangting Plaza
4. Dao-Nan Left Bank Riverside Park: Circular plaza under the Hengguang Bridge ramp near the zoo, designated plaza to the right front of the parking lot outside the zoo
5. Baoling Right Bank Riverside Park: Designated area upstream of Sankatou Wharf
6. Baoling Left Bank Riverside Park: Plaza under Baoling Bridge
7. Shuangxi Right Bank Riverside Park: Circular plaza 30 meters upstream of Yunong Bridge
8. Yuanshan Riverside Park: Designated area around the skating rink
9. Chengmei Left Bank Riverside Park (Nangang & Songshan sides): Slope protection platform between Rainbow Bridge upstream 50 meters and Chengmei Bridge
10. Chengmei Right Bank Riverside Park (Neihu side): Slope protection platform between Rainbow Bridge upstream 50 meters and Chengmei Bridge
11. Dajia Riverside Park: Designated area under Dazhi Bridge
BBQ-permitted areas in Taichung:
1. Zhongzheng Camping Area in Beitun District
2. Wufu Linmen Sacred Tree Park in Shigang District
3. Aofengshan Park in Qingshui District
