The Arashiyama area is home to around 500 cherry blossom trees. When they bloom each spring, clusters of blossoms resemble falling snow, delicately dotting the distant mountains and valleys. The Togetsukyo Bridge spans the Katsura River (also known as the Oi River). According to legend, the bridge got its name when Emperor Kameyama, gazing at the full moon above, was inspired to name it on the spot. The bridge is practically a symbol of Arashiyama. Its current steel structure was rebuilt in 1934, maintaining the same design as the original. Capturing the bridge with cherry blossoms in the foreground has become one of Arashiyama’s iconic views. Likewise, the spectacular expanse of vibrant red leaves in autumn is equally famous, making it a top tourist spot in Kyoto during the fall season.
