The Yellow Rubber Duck currently on display at Kaohsiung’s Glory Pier is proving hugely popular, having already attracted over 500,000 visitors. In response to recent public concerns about the materials used in the duck, Kaohsiung City Government spokesperson Lai Jui-long stated that the Yellow Rubber Duck is made of safe materials, and all officially certified merchandise has passed safety toy certifications—so everyone can rest assured.

Lai Jui-long said that the Yellow Rubber Duck is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which does not pollute the ocean. After the exhibition, it will be recycled. Meanwhile, all officially certified merchandise has been inspected by the Bureau of Commodity Inspection and carries a safety toy label, ensuring no harm to children’s health and safety. The city government will also educate the public to raise awareness about environmental issues.
The Yellow Rubber Duck has sparked a nationwide craze. On the opening day, 200,000 people flocked to Glory Pier to catch a glimpse of the duck. On the 20th, there were also 100,000 visitors. Although Typhoon Usagi briefly disrupted the event and the duck took a short break, after resuming the display on the 22nd afternoon, it still drew 150,000 visitors. Even on Monday, 60,000 people came to see it. Organizers report that in just four days of exhibition, total visitor numbers have surpassed 500,000, far exceeding expectations.
