The 2018 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau will be published on November 30. Recently, the guide’s Bib Gourmand (tire man) recommended restaurants were announced, with a total of 82 restaurants selected—73 in Hong Kong and 9 in Macau, including 17 new entries. Among the new additions is the restaurant “Please Sit,” opened by two Taiwanese in Hong Kong, serving traditional Taiwanese cuisine that highlights authentic Taiwanese snacks.
Among the new entries, 8 serve Cantonese cuisine, including “Gathering Joy Home” helmed by Chef Ng Kong Kiu, two Cantonese soup noodle shops “Ying Kee Noodle” and “Mak Man Kee Noodle,” and the congee shop “Kao De Kei” known for its fish broth-based congee. The Taiwanese restaurant “Please Sit” is making its first appearance, run by two Taiwanese women offering classic Taiwanese-style dishes. The Thai boat noodle specialist “Samsen Thai Noodles” serves authentic Thai flavors, spicy where it should be and sour where it should be. Additionally, the newly listed “Tsuta” ramen shop has earned one Michelin star in Tokyo.

Taiwan’s most internationally recognized restaurant, “Din Tai Fung,” has three branches recommended: Causeway Bay, Sun Hung Kai Centre, and Macau Studio City. As a result, Din Tai Fung Taiwan is also a hot contender predicted by the market to be included in the 2018 Taipei Michelin Guide.
Being selected as a Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended restaurant means having superior quality and being able to offer a three-course meal for under HK$400 (approximately NT$1,550).
