For many railway enthusiasts around the world, riding a sleeper train in Japan is surely a dreamlike travel experience. Now, in addition to the famed Hokutosei, Cassiopeia, and the luxurious Twilight Express, Japan’s sleeper train fleet will soon welcome a new luxury member — the Seven Stars in Kyushu, scheduled to officially launch on October 15.

The Seven Stars in Kyushu was built with a budget of 3 billion yen (over NT$900 million). The interior combines traditional Japanese and Western styles through the use of wood and carpet, creating a retro yet luxurious ambiance. The train features first-class, business-class, and lounge cars. The lounge car includes a bar, where passengers can relax on sofas and swivel seats while admiring the scenery through the large windows, all accompanied by live piano music. The name "Seven Stars in Kyushu" carries multiple meanings: it refers to the seven prefectures of Kyushu — Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, and Oita — as well as the seven iconic aspects of Kyushu tourism: nature, hot springs, cuisine, local hospitality, history and culture, power spots, and the train itself. It also symbolizes the seven cars that make up the train.

The Seven Stars in Kyushu currently offers one 4-day/3-night and one 2-day/1-night itinerary per week. The former is priced between NT$115,000 and NT$170,000, while the latter ranges from approximately NT$46,000 to NT$67,000.
