Warm-up event for the food expo: Chefs guide you to find ingredients and cook in the kitchen

The 2016 Taiwan Culinary Exhibition, now in its 25th year, will be held grandly at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from August 5 to 8. Last year, after a two-year hiatus, the food expo attracted over 146,000 visitors during its four-day run. This year, the organizer, the Taiwan Visitors Association, has for the first time collaborated with major hotels and restaurants to launch the "Chef’s Guided Tour" event, allowing the public to follow chefs around Taiwan in search of premium ingredients, step into their kitchens to cook dishes, and finally enjoy the food while sharing and exchanging ideas with the chefs.

Starting in May, renowned chefs from top hotels and restaurants across Taiwan have successively launched Chef’s Guided Tour events, taking participants up mountains and down to the sea to discover unique local ingredients, share exclusive cooking philosophies, reveal the secrets of their kitchen sanctuaries, and personally teach cooking techniques—delivering a wealth of surprises to attendees. From late May to June, the public can also learn how to make Hangzhou fish balls with Chef Lin Bing-hong from L’Hotel de Chine’s Tian Xiang Lou, explore Dihua Street and learn to make the signature eight-treasure taro paste with Chef Tsai Kun-chan, culinary director of Taipei’s Regent Taipei, or learn to cook pumpkin risotto from Chef Qiu Zhaoyi of Victoria Hotel, beef brisket with chili sauce with Executive Chef Wang Shunian of Tiancheng Hotel Group, and chicken soup with buckwheat from Chef Lo Wei-chou of Grand Hyatt Taipei.
