As the gates open, Hello Kitty, SpongeBob SquarePants, Transformers, Santa Claus, and little bears bring the festive cheer of Christmas early to everyone. The 2013 New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town will officially kick off after the lighting ceremony on November 22. The 45-day series of Christmas Town events include costume parades, strolls designed for children, as well as Christmas concerts... and more. A wide variety of spectacular programs and sea of lights will take turns to shine at Civic Square, Wanping Park, and Station Front Square.

The New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town, which has welcomed visitors since 2010, is entering its third year this year and has become one of the city’s most representative festive events. To allow even more people to experience the joy and vibrancy of the Christmas Town, the New Taipei City Government has extended the event from one month last year to one and a half months this year. It has also made the main light – the Christmas tree – standing in Civic Square – “grow” from 35 meters to 35.5 meters. The organizer, the New Taipei City Government Tourism Bureau, stated that the scale of the light area has expanded once again this year. The entire light zone uses a total of 2.4 million bulbs, with a total length of lighting equipment of about 300,000 meters – equivalent to 618 Taipei 101 buildings (excluding the top antenna), transforming the Christmas Town into a dazzling sea of lights. It’s perfect for families to stroll through together.
The main star of the annual event—the main light Christmas tree—is built with 3,300 LED tubes, each one meter long, making it the tallest LED Christmas tree in the nation. Each light point can emit 256 colors * 256 colors, totaling over 60,000 colors. Through combinations of these tubes, vivid computer animations and graphics are displayed. Coupled with a new combination of the Christmas bear and Santa Claus, it adds fun and storytelling elements. From November 22 until January 5 next year during the Christmas Town event period, the main light Christmas tree lighting show will take place daily from 18:00 to 22:00, each show lasting 3 minutes and 55 seconds. At that time, the 12 light pillars on Civic Square will also change colors along with the lighting show, illuminating the carousel and coffee cups on the square. Not far away, cartoon stars in the Children’s Fun Cartoon Park, as well as large installations nearby such as the Happiness Castle and Dream Crystal Ball, will sparkle brilliantly, lighting up a warm holiday for everyone.

In addition, during the event period, various performances will be held including the Joyful Night Christmas Concert, New Taipei Christmas Eve, and the “Happy New Taipei 'Dreams of Happiness'” concert, scheduled for December 7–8 from 18:00 to 21:30, December 21–22 from 18:00 to 22:00, December 23–24 from 16:00 to 21:30, and December 28–29 from 19:00 to 21:00. World-class magic performances, numerous well-known Christian artists, top-tier singer-songwriters, highly acclaimed indigenous artists, and performance groups featuring indigenous cultural characteristics will be invited to deliver amazing shows.
