New Year's Day 2014 falls on a Wednesday. Although there is only a one-day holiday, many netizens are still planning to travel across the country for New Year's Eve celebrations and return home. Taiwan High Speed Rail has scheduled additional services for New Year's transport from December 31, 2013, to January 2, 2014, adding 10 extra train services, while suspending five commuter services during peak hours. In total, 377 train services will be available over the three days, maintaining both non-reserved seating and the "early bird discount." Additionally, starting at midnight on December 4, passengers can purchase round-trip tickets for the New Year's transport period from December 31, 2013, to January 2, 2014, in advance via 24-hour convenience stores partnered with the high-speed rail, online booking, the T Express mobile app, the voice reservation system, or at ticket windows and ticket machines at stations during business hours.

During the 2014 New Year's transport period, 311 train services will offer the "early bird discount," accounting for 82.5% of all services. Passengers who book tickets between 8 and 28 days before the departure date may enjoy discounts of 65%, 80%, or 90%. For some services, in addition to the 65% and 80% discounts, a minimum 90% discount is also available. Furthermore, non-reserved seating, limited business class upgrades, and standard class ticket discounts will remain available during the transport period. Holders of period tickets, stored-value tickets, or EasyCard co-branded cards can enter the station directly using card readers. Special programs such as senior citizen discounts, university student discounts, and school excursion fares are suspended.
