With just over 20 days left in 2013, the much-anticipated countdown events are about to kick off. Taipei’s iconic New Year’s Eve event—the Taipei 101 fireworks show—following the 2013 Taipei 101 New Year’s fireworks display, will once again be designed by the internationally renowned French fireworks team Groupe F for 101. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the completion of Taipei 101, the New Year’s fireworks show has been extended from the previous 188 seconds to 218 seconds, with the number of fireworks increasing to 24,000, up by 2,000 compared to last year. In addition, to welcome the arrival of the upcoming Lunar Year of the Golden Horse, this year’s fireworks will feature a golden theme, offering a more diverse and rich color palette than ever before, setting a new record in the event's history. Coupled with European-imported cool-light, low-smoke fireworks that feature excellent color rendering and high saturation, along with a specially composed musical score for the 10th-anniversary show, the event promises a refined visual feast unlike any before.

Counting down from 2013, “Love You for a Lifetime,” into 2014, “Love You for a Century”—there’s no better way to create an unforgettable memory than watching the Taipei 101 fireworks from the highest and best vantage points inside the tower. To complement the 2014 New Year’s fireworks show, Taipei 101 Observatory is launching a limited-edition “2013-2014 High-Altitude Fireworks Countdown Night” couples’ ticket package, with only 300 sets available. This allows couples to take the world’s fastest elevator directly to the observatory and enjoy the romantic feeling of standing above the clouds with stars above. Additionally, participants will receive a commemorative certificate, a custom-made fireworks photo, as well as premium gifts, a Taipei 101-shaped water bottle, and a meal box. Each set is priced at NT$2,000, and there’s also a chance to win big prizes such as round-trip flights between Taipei and Tokyo or travel accommodation vouchers at the event venue.
Additionally, the New Year’s Greeting Submission and Voting Campaign has entered its third year, with over 100,000 people participating actively each year. Taipei 101 spokesperson Liu Jiahao stated that this year’s greeting activity is divided into three phases. The first phase invites netizens to submit their greetings online, with the first 101 submissions that pass the review receiving a beautiful Taipei 101 postcard. The second phase, open for voting from December 9 to December 19, allows netizens to vote online, with the top 20 most-voted greetings competing for the final championship. The third phase runs from December 20 to December 26, during which the greetings with the highest votes will rise higher on the display—let’s see whose message can “shout out loud to bless 2014.” The top ten voted greetings will be displayed on the Taipei 101 building facade from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM on New Year’s Eve, December 31, and the ten authors will also receive a 3D puzzle from Taipei 101. After the campaign ends, all participants in the voting activity will also have a chance to win an observatory ticket.
