With the Christmas season approaching, Tainan’s annual Christmas light displays have consistently received high praise. In particular, the main Christmas tree standing in front of the Taiwan Literature Museum, which complements the museum’s brick load-bearing wall structure and elegant exterior primarily finished with stone-textured stucco, attracts many locals and tourists who come to admire and take photos. This year’s Christmas light display also aligns with the city government’s low-carbon and energy-saving philosophy, using LED lights and recyclable materials. In addition to continuing the tradition of decorating along key routes such as Tainan Railway Station, Tang Te-chang Memorial Park, Zhongshan Road, Nanmen Road, and the Mayor’s Residence (where the lighting ceremony for the Mayor’s Residence is scheduled for 5:30 PM on December 13), dazzling Christmas lights can also be seen at important city landmarks and transportation hubs, including district offices across Tainan’s various administrative districts.

The full Christmas light display will be officially exhibited from now until February 14, 2014. During the Christmas season in December, there will also be holiday performances and a series of celebration events next to the main Christmas tree at the Literature Museum and at various churches. This week, performances at the square in front of the Literature Museum will take place on Saturday (the 14th) from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, and 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, as well as on Sunday (the 15th) from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Additionally, this Saturday evening, the Far Eastern Department Store in Tainan will host the “Ganbatte” Christmas Energy-Boosting Lighting Event, while Hai’an Church will hold the 2013 “Blessings for Tainan” Christmas Love & Charity Carnival.
