As 2013 draws to a close, the globally renowned social networking site Facebook has just released its annual check-in rankings by region and worldwide. Among them, Tokyo Disneyland, Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands, and Seoul’s Myeongdong in South Korea all made the list. Taiwan’s Tainan Garden Night Market is not only the most popular check-in spot in Taiwan, but also ranks 12th globally.

In Facebook’s 2013 year-end review, the platform analyzed posts throughout the year to tally popular check-in locations, most-discussed topics, and commonly shared life events among users worldwide. Night markets have always been one of Taiwan’s most iconic tourist attractions. From north to south, and both domestically and internationally, to experience the most distinctive local grassroots life in Taiwan, a visit to a night market is a must. Therefore, the top three most popular check-in spots in Taiwan are all night markets. Tainan Garden Night Market not only took the top spot in Taiwan but also ranked 12th globally among popular check-in spots. The second place is Yilan’s Luodong Night Market, ranked 25th globally, and the third place is Taichung’s Fengjia Night Market, which came in at 26th globally.
