Among them, the Navy Friendship Flotilla will dock at the Makung CTS Island Base Pier in Penghu on March 19. On March 19 and 20 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the base camp area will be open to the public, allowing visitors to board the ships — a rare opportunity not to be missed!
In addition, the Friendship Flotilla carries nearly 800 officers and soldiers, and the accompanying naval bands and ceremonial teams will also perform. The 2019 Friendship Flotilla is composed of three of the Navy’s most advanced vessels: the Cheng Kung-class frigates, La Fayette-class frigates, and the Pan Shi supply ship. The primary purpose of the Navy’s Friendship Flotilla is long-distance sailing training, while the secondary aim is to visit allied nations, and assist in evacuating local expatriates during wartime in those countries. For example, in March 2018, the Republic of China Navy Friendship Flotilla visited the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and in April 2018, it traveled to El Salvador to carry out missions such as strengthening combat readiness, promoting national prestige, consolidating friendships with allied nations, and providing comfort to overseas compatriots. Tourism, cultural exchange, and publicity have all been key focuses.
