The “2013 Taipei International Christmas Town,” jointly organized by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism and MediaKu Communications Co., Ltd., makes its dazzling debut today through December 25. Spanning 13 days of Christmas festivities, this year’s event incorporates for the first time iconic landmarks and elements from five major international cities, including Taipei 101, the city’s honorary citizen – the giant panda cub Yuan Zai, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sydney Opera House, and Moscow’s St. Basil’s Cathedral. These features transform Xiangdi Boulevard in Taipei’s Xinyi District into a Christmas wonderland brimming with exotic charm. Additionally, the “Christmas Express” – a first-time collaboration with citizens’ beloved YouBike – invites the public to take part in spreading holiday cheer by delivering Christmas gifts to loved ones via festive YouBikes.

The Department of Information and Tourism noted that this year’s Taipei Christmas Town ingeniously transforms Xiangdi Boulevard in the Xinyi shopping district into an open-air Parisian Left Bank-style café and Taiwan’s largest three-dimensional musical Christmas card. Whether strolling through the area or viewing from the elevated walkway, visitors can admire the dreamy sea of lights and the beauty of a Christmas city infused with international flair from various perspectives. Moreover, the main stage of the Taipei International Christmas Town will feature a spectacular international city-themed Christmas show, with top-tier performance troupes from around the world delivering high-quality large-scale performances. These shows will take place over two consecutive weekends, with an extra-special international Christmas gala on Christmas Eve. Other highlights include a fun and engaging international Christmas scavenger hunt, the heartwarming YouBike Christmas Express, and contributions from leading global brands offering a variety of exquisite Christmas gifts — all of which underscore the true spirit of love and sharing at the heart of Christmas 2013 in Taipei.

The main stage activities at Xiangdi Square during the Taipei International Christmas Town will also take place over four consecutive weekends (December 14, 15, 21, and 22), featuring international city-themed Christmas shows from New York City’s classic jazz, Paris’s Moulin Rouge, Sydney’s opera, and Moscow’s acrobatic performances. A total of 12 grand shows across three daily performances will showcase diverse international Christmas flavors. After each show, performers will come down to interact with the audience for photos, creating memorable holiday moments together. On Christmas Eve, December 24, an additional Christmas carnival gala will feature remix versions of classic Christmas songs, turning Taipei into a joyful city that never sleeps.

Additionally, the Christmas Town is launching a first-ever “Christmas Express” activity in collaboration with YouBike. From December 14 to 22, the Christmas Town service desk will accept mission requests for 500 opportunities over nine consecutive days, with gift deliveries taking place from December 23 to 25 to spread happiness across the city.
