Taiwan’s tourism industry has once again received international recognition. Following the UK’s The Guardian including Taiwan in its recommended travel destinations this year, the US newspaper The New York Times has also listed Taiwan among the 52 must-visit places for 2014, ranking it 11th, surpassing places such as Frankfurt in Germany and Ishigaki Island in Japan. It also emphasized that Taiwan is an island where one can enjoy both urban style and outdoor leisure in a single trip.

In the report, The New York Times pointed out that Taipei, which was selected as the World Design Capital for 2016, has a convenient transportation network. In addition to having Eslite Bookstore and delicious street food, visitors can also enjoy the waterway scenery of Taipei along its 17 bike lanes. Moreover, getting to Kenting National Park in southern Taiwan takes only about four hours by high-speed rail and bus. Wetlands, white sandy beaches, and the scenic beauty of fishing villages are all easily accessible, while Orchid Island is hailed as a diving paradise. Additionally, the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology in Badouzi, Keelung, and its surrounding trails are also recommended spots to experience the local culture and landscape.
