This year’s Chinese New Year holiday is shorter, leaving many people struggling to choose where to go. Hotels.com has released a list of popular domestic and international travel destinations based on the search habits of Taiwanese travelers to serve as a reference. The results show that the top five international vacation destinations are all neighboring countries: Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Seoul, and Singapore. In addition, warm and sunny destinations were also popular choices for Taiwanese travelers during the holiday, with the top five destinations seeing the highest growth in search rates being Okinawa and Oahu, taking first and second place respectively. Compared to last year, searches for Okinawa surged by 416%! Since airlines officially launched direct flights to Hawaii last July, searches for Oahu have also increased significantly by 241%.

The six-day Chinese New Year holiday also led many people to opt for short domestic trips. According to search rate statistics from Hotels.com, there was a significant increase in search activity for major domestic tourist cities during the holiday period, with the largest increases concentrated in central and southern Taiwan. Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Tainan saw jumps of 257%, 220%, and 192% in search rates respectively, reflecting the booming travel trend in these regions. Overall, in terms of search rankings, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Tainan retained their positions as the top four domestic travel destinations, while scenic Yilan made its first entry into the rankings, claiming fifth place.
