The other morning, in the heart of the expansive Meinong flower field area by Zhongzheng Lake, a manned hot air balloon slowly ascended, hovering at an altitude of 60 meters for about six minutes, offering a sweeping view of the vast flower seas and the art installations scattered across the fields, then taking in the scenic beauty of Zhongzheng Lake before landing safely. This inaugural hot air balloon flight in Meinong was launched in sync with the opening ceremony of the flower sea season. The hot air balloon ride experience was available only on the opening day, while the Meinong flower viewing season will continue until the end of February.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu noted that Meinong, Shanlin, Liouguei, and Jiasian districts are all ideal weekend getaway destinations — Kaohsiung’s “backyard gardens.” The hardworking farmers here grow clean, delicious fruits and vegetables. Meinong specialties such as orange-honey tomatoes, white radishes, emerald wild lotus, Meinong rice, and red bean gift boxes are top choices for visitors. Civil Affairs Bureau Director Tseng Tzu-wen also mentioned that starting last year, Meinong, Shanlin, and Liouguei have been integrated into a unified “three-in-one, uniquely charming” tourism region, creating a collective flower sea image that has become a nationally popular flower viewing destination. Among the three areas, Meinong alone boasts 40 hectares of flower fields. From now until the end of February, visitors can enjoy the flower seas in Meinong, pick fruit in orchards, savor Hakka cuisine, and experience the cultural charm of the Hakka villages in Meinong.
