The arrival date has been confirmed for the 1,600 Yuanbao (pandas) that recently announced their plans to come play in Taiwan. The large-scale outdoor installation exhibition “1600 Pandas World Tour—Taipei,” jointly organized by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism and Left Brain Creative, is set to open on February 28 in Taipei. This marks the first stop of the paper panda tour across Asia, where the 1,600 pandas that have traveled to over 20 cities in Europe, including Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, and Rome, will meet their specially created Formosan black bear paper counterparts.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin stated that this exhibition specially invited artist Paulo Grangeon to create a representation of Taiwan’s most iconic conservation animal—the Formosan black bear. It is hoped that the display of 200 paper Formosan black bears will raise public awareness about local conservation issues. After the exhibition, these paper pandas and Formosan black bears are planned to be auctioned off for charity, with proceeds donated to animal protection and ecological public welfare organizations, aiming to contribute to Taiwan’s animal conservation and environmental protection efforts.
This exhibition will be held in two phases. The first phase will take place at Civic Plaza, where the Taipei City Government has also planned the “Bears Are Worth Seeing” initiative. Not only will there be adorable paper panda sculptures, but the surrounding area will also feature various flowers and green panda sculptures, with lighting displays added in the evening to create a beautiful light art experience. The second phase will be held at the National Theater & Concert Hall Art Plaza, where the 200 specially made paper Formosan black bears for the Taipei event will make their first appearance.

The “1600 Pandas World Tour—Taipei” paper panda exhibition is completely free of charge. To allow more people to conveniently visit the exhibition, the organizers have planned a two-phase schedule: the first phase runs from February 28 to March 9 at Taipei City Hall Civic Plaza, and the second phase takes place from March 14 to March 30 at the National Theater & Concert Hall Art Plaza. The exhibition is open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and the public is welcome to visit freely.
