Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
Previously, there have been continuous reports about a significant drop in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan.CommonWealth MagazineOn the 27th, it was pointed out that not only have group tours and independent travel decreased, but visit delegations have also been suspended, and even long-agreed “incentive tours” have been abruptly canceled without warning.
According to CommonWealth Magazine, due to the special nature of incentive tours, travel agencies usually need to propose and sign contracts half a year, or even a full year, in advance, and such plans rarely change. However, after May 20, the previously scheduled visits by China's direct-selling company Perfect (3,000 people), China-based Taiwanese business group Kedi Group (6,000 people), as well as two groups from Beijing-based American health products company Shaklee, each with a thousand people, have all been canceled.
The report quoted Lin Yuzhen, vice chairman of BaoBao Travel Agency, which was in charge of organizing Shaklee’s incentive tour, as saying that this situation has had a major impact on the agency’s performance. In order to understand the reasons behind the clients’ cancellations, he will fly to Beijing specifically to try to salvage the situation.
In addition, although data shows that the number of tourists from Japan, Hong Kong and Macau, South Korea, Malaysia, the United States, and New Zealand and Australia visiting Taiwan has increased, Lin Yuzhen frankly stated that the missing Chinese tourists cannot be replaced by other tourism markets.
