As the annual Lantern Festival on February 14th (the 15th day of the first lunar month) approaches,the annual Tainan City Salt Fireworks event will soon kick off at the Yanshui Junior High School sports field. Tainan Mayor Lai Qingde said that this year’s Salt Fireworks will surpass previous years, featuring a 12-foot-tall statue of “Guan Yu Riding the Red Hare,” symbolizing the spirit of a dragon and horse, specially crafted by the Wu Temple, which is set to make its debut. There will also be a main fireworks fortress combining high-tech LED lighting and 400,000 beehive rockets, creating a dazzling and colorful spectacle. Additionally, over 200 smaller fireworks forts will be scattered throughout the Yanshui area, allowing participants to enjoy the thrilling beehive rocket experience all around town. Coupled with surrounding events such as the Yuejin Harbor Lantern Festival, Guan Yu Cultural Exhibition, Narcissus Flower Art, and local agricultural specialty food displays, the technology- and culture-rich 2014 Salt Fireworks event is suitable for families and couples alike. Amidst the thrilling atmosphere and the stunning sound and light effects, it is sure to bring people closer together, help them shake off past misfortunes, and welcome the cheer of the new year.

When participating in the event,it is essential to wear thick, long-sleeved cotton clothing, a mask, scarf, gloves, and a full-face safety helmet with protective goggles. The seams of your sleeves and pants should be secured with rubber bands, and remember not to wear flammable nylon clothing. In addition, spectators should never aim beehive rockets at pedestrians or shoot them at each other. People with heart disease, high blood pressure, mental illness, asthma, or other related conditions are advised not to participate. The fire department has stated that all fireworks forts for this event have been inspected by the fire bureau to ensure there are no plastic-headed beehive rockets mixed in. Only those that pass inspection and are affixed with a safety label will be allowed to be launched. On the day of the event, professional firefighters and medical personnel will also be stationed on-site. Therefore, as long as participants wear the recommended attire, they can be sure to enjoy an exhilarating, safe, and unforgettable beehive rocket experience.

The Wu Temple divine palanquin parade for this year’s Salt Fireworks will take place on February 13th and 14th (the 14th and 15th days of the first lunar month). The public can follow behind the divine palanquin to personally experience the thrill of rushing through the beehive rockets.
