A cold wave swept southward across Taiwan, bringing low temperatures and high humidity to mountainous areas. Snow has fallen in various places including Yushan, Alishan, and Hehuanshan. Among them, Yushan experienced heavy snowfall from last night (19th) to early this morning (20th), with snow accumulation exceeding 20 cm. Alishan also saw its heaviest snowfall in the past 10 years between 4:00 and 5:00 this morning, with snow accumulation of about 3 cm. However, the snow quickly melted due to clear weather and rising temperatures today. Hehuanshan also experienced its heaviest snowfall of the winter season last night, with snow accumulation reaching 30 cm. Netizens planning to head up the mountains in the coming days are advised to equip their vehicle tires with snow chains to avoid danger.

Besides Hehuanshan, Yushan, and Alishan, Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area, which sits at an altitude of 2,000 meters, began to receive snowfall at 22:00 yesterday, with temperatures dropping to -2～-3°C and snow accumulation reaching up to 3 cm. This morning, while the snowfall has stopped, temperatures remain low between 1～2°C, and the snowy winter landscape still decorates the forest.

Netizens are reminded that temperatures in the mountains are very low. In addition to adequate cold protection, those driving up the mountains must ensure their vehicle tires are equipped with snow chains. Wear lightweight shoes, and carry rain gear and warm clothing when heading up the mountains.
