Taipei City — 1,600 Paper Pandas Exhibition
Citizens go crazy for paper pandas. The 1,600 paper pandas officially made their debut on Friday last week at Taipei City Hall Plaza. According to organizer statistics, by 6:00 pm on the first day of the exhibition, the visitor count had exceeded 270,000. However, netizens planning to go see the pandas over the weekend should note that the 1,600 paper pandas currently exhibited at Taipei City Hall Plaza will take a short break on March 9. As March 9 is the “Tour de Taiwan International Cycling Race,” roads around the City Hall will be under full traffic control. To ensure the race proceeds smoothly and public safety is maintained, the organizers have decided to delay the opening time from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on that day. Netizens are reminded to visit after noon to avoid a wasted trip.

Taipei City — Neihu Strawberry Season
The Neihu Strawberry Season will kick off on March 8. The strawberry season in Neihu typically runs from December to April each year. Currently, there are nine tourist strawberry farms located along Bishan Road (Baishihu area) and Dahu Street. Unlike the open-field cultivation method used in Miaoli’s Dahu, most strawberry farms in Neihu use greenhouses and vine-covered trellises. In addition to the fun of picking strawberries in the Baishihu area of Neihu, visitors can also enjoy the beauty of the rural mountain scenery including the “Bihu Trail,” “Baishihu Suspension Bridge,” “Spring and Autumn Trail,” “Couple Trees,” “Concentric Circle Wetland,” “Pitou,” and “Dragon Boat Rock.”
The opening event of the Strawberry Season will be held at 9:30 am on March 8, 2014, at the strawberry farm area on Bishan Road in Neihu District (No. 40, Bishan Road). The event will feature lion dance performances, a limited-edition strawberry love grab-and-go offer, and the distribution of NT$50 vouchers. Visitors can use the vouchers to get a NT$50 discount on agricultural product purchases, valid only on the day of issue. There is a limit of 1,200 vouchers.

Nantou County — Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village Lavender Season
As the annual Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village Cherry Blossom Festival draws to a close, the “Lavender Season” arrives to create a different kind of romantic ambiance in soft purple hues. Over 100,000 Spanish lavender and salvia plants will transform the Shuishalian European Garden into a purple floral carpet. Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village has designated March 9 (the second Sunday of March) as “Formosan Aboriginal Purple Valentine’s Day.” Couples or spouses who wear purple lover-themed outfits to enter the park on that day and join the “Purple Love Flash Event” will, at 3:09 pm, engage in a 60-second intimate pose to receive a small lavender-themed souvenir from the village. If the purple outfit is a genuine item purchased on-site at the village that day, visitors can present their receipt to receive an additional exclusive lavender gift.

Chiayi City — Taiwan Baseball Spirit Themed Exhibition
The “Taiwan Baseball Spirit Themed Exhibition,” organized by Chiayi City Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be on display until May 18 at the Chiayi Branch of the Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau. The exhibition begins with the story of the Kagi Agricultural and Forestry Baseball Team, covering the Triple Crown era, grassroots baseball development, the Care Cup Baseball Tournament, the Chuanfu Cup spirit, and the Zhuloshan Cup competition. It also includes last year’s Classic Series memorabilia such as Yang Yao-hsun’s blood-stained pants from his injury while playing against South Korea, the retirement jersey of Iron-blooded Coach Tseng Chi-en, and various record-breaking medals of professional baseball stars — a total of nearly 300 cultural relics.
