What do netizens fear most when traveling? In February 2014, global online hotel booking platform Agoda.com conducted an online survey of over 50,000 Agoda customers from around the world, asking them to choose the most indispensable item when traveling. The survey results showed that Asian travelers are most worried about being without their phones, while Western travelers fear not having their credit cards.

The survey results revealed that as many as 45% of Asian travelers said "phone" is the most indispensable essential for travel, with "credit card" coming in second at 29% of total Asian votes. Interestingly, Western travelers had a very different answer—compared to Asians, European and American travelers consider credit cards far more important than phones, with 47% of Europeans and 44% of Americans saying they fear most forgetting their credit cards while traveling, and only 19% of Western travelers choosing phones.

Breaking it down by nationality, Taiwanese travelers, like other Asians, cannot do without their phones; only Japanese travelers differ, with 38% choosing credit cards and just 28% picking phones. Additionally, France showed the most extreme results, with as many as 58% of French people selecting credit cards and only 9% needing a phone.
