Head straight to Maokong now that Taipei’s “Maokong Gondola” has completed its maintenance and will resume service on June 1!

After 23 days of annual major maintenance, Taipei’s Maokong Gondola is finally nearing completion. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation announced that the gondola will resume operations starting June 1.

The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation stated that the highlight of this maintenance was the first-ever disassembly and replacement of the drive wheel bearings — a crucial component that ensures the smooth operation of the gondola cabins. The main drive wheel alone has a diameter of 5 meters and weighs 4.5 tons, equivalent to the weight of an adult Asian elephant. For the maintenance team, in addition to coordinated teamwork during phased construction, dismantling the large wheel also required the removal of surrounding equipment. During reassembly, meticulous work was essential to ensure system operational stability.

All annual maintenance tasks have now been successfully completed, so the gondola will resume service on June 1. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation also recommends that passengers save time by avoiding long queues at the site. Simply book your gondola ride time and cabin type on the “Taipei Citizen e-Service” website one day before your visit, and print out the reservation confirmation slip to reduce waiting time at the station.
