Takeru Satoh first rose to fame in 2001 with his leading role in Waterboys, earning widespread acclaim for his natural and nuanced performance. He has since won numerous domestic and international Best Actor awards. His role in Villain & Wife swept him multiple Best Actor prizes, including the Japan Academy Film Prize and the Japan Blue Ribbon Awards, establishing him as one of Japan’s leading contemporary actors. Known for films such as Waterboys, Nada Sousou, Spring Snow, The Magic Hour, and Love and Honor, Satoh reunites with Yoji Yamada after Tokyo Family in Memories of a Tokyo House, crafting another deeply moving tale of love and family.
Memories of a Tokyo House is Yoji Yamada’s 82nd film and the first love story in his nearly 50-year directing career. Actress Noriko Sakamoto plays the young and beautiful Hirai Tokiko, while her husband, Hirai Masaki, is portrayed by Kabuki actor Takataro Kataoka. Kuroki Haru and Chieko Baisho play the young and elderly versions of the Hirai family’s maid, Fukiya Taki, respectively.
