EVA Air’s Taoyuan–Okinawa route officially commenced service on the 17th. To celebrate the launch of this new route, the airline held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Terminal 2 of Taoyuan Airport, attended by Civil Aeronautics Administration Deputy Director Fang Zhiwen, Taoyuan Airport Corporation Executive Vice President Wei Shengzhi, Interchange Association Japan Director-General Shunji Goto, Okinawa Tourism Convention Bureau Taipei Office Acting Director Lin Xiujia, and EVA Air President Cheng Chuan-yi. The Okinawan mascot MAHAE CHAN also appeared at the event, delighting passengers who took photos with the character in a lively and cheerful atmosphere, kicking off a joyful island holiday early.

In his speech, EVA Air President Cheng Chuan-yi stated: “EVA Air is very optimistic about the development potential of the Okinawan market. Okinawa is EVA Air’s 11th destination in Japan and the closest to Taiwan. With just a 90-minute flight, travelers can easily enjoy an island breakfast, offering more choices for those traveling to Okinawa.”

Located near Taiwan, Okinawa is known as one of the world’s four major coastal tourist destinations, boasting diverse tourism resources that combine vacationing, sightseeing, and gourmet food. Coupled with its convenient transportation, its popularity as a travel destination remains consistently high. According to statistics from the Okinawa Tourism Convention Bureau Taipei Office, approximately 254,000 Taiwanese visited Okinawa in 2013, an increase of 70% compared to 149,000 in 2012. Therefore, EVA Air specifically chose to launch the route before the peak summer travel season to meet the needs of more travelers and families during the summer holidays.
EVA Air’s Taoyuan–Okinawa route operates daily using the A321-200 aircraft, with a total of 184 seats, including 8 business class and 176 economy class seats. The flight schedule is as follows:

EVA Air has specially collaborated with the Okinawa Tourism Convention Bureau and travel agencies to launch 3-night, 4-day group tour packages starting at just NT$22,000 per person to celebrate the new route. EVA Holidays also offers 2-night, 1-day free independent travel packages starting at NT$11,300 per person. Since their launch, these products have been very popular with travelers, with the passenger load factor for the Taoyuan–Okinawa route exceeding 80% in June. It is expected to reach another peak during the summer travel season.
