Don’t want to deal with crowds during the 228 holiday? A relaxing half-day trip in Kaohsiung

The Pier-2 Art Center in Yancheng, Kaohsiung, is an international art and cultural creativity platform built around the concepts of avant-garde, experimentation, and innovation. The area houses many cultural venues of various sizes, making it a great place for kids to have fun and adults to relax. Its proximity to the docks also makes it perfect for leisurely walks or bike rides.

The Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts is not only a new landmark of Kaohsiung, but also the largest arts and cultural venue in Taiwan, as well as the largest single-theater architectural structure in all of Asia. Surrounded by the sea, its wave-like exterior and freeform white curves resemble a large fish gracefully gliding into the ground, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The vast campus offers plenty of opportunities for travelers to take photos, go on dates, or spend time with kids.

Hanging colorful rainbow umbrellas between the gaps of street buildings is a distinctive feature of the Houyi Shopping District in Kaohsiung. From December 2018 to February 28 of the following year, the district held the “Umbrella Shine” street installation event, aiming to attract tourists and boost local business. After the exhibition, the umbrellas were donated to the MRT authority, Taiwan Railways, and the police department to be used as goodwill umbrellas, extending their value.

The Heart of Love River is located at the intersection of Bo’ai Road and Tongmeng Road, adjacent to the Houyi MRT Station and Aozihdi Forest Park. Prior to Lunar New Year, a 2.6-hectare improvement project was completed in the area. In addition to upgrading old pavements and facilities, the surface of the Rainbow Bridge incorporated creative designs, using floor paintings to mark tourist attractions along the Love River. At night, romantic lighting effects are activated on the hour, making the Heart of Love River a top choice for dates after dark.
