Not to be outshone by the yellow rubber duck, Taiwan’s iconic red-faced duck made quite a buzz earlier this year when it appeared at Liyu Lake. With summer vacation here, the Hualien County Government has brought in more little red-faced ducks to join their parent, creating a heartwarming scene of a mother duck leading her ducklings — a spectacular sight that has visitors stopping to take photos with the large duck family.

The Red-faced Duck family will be stationed at Liyu Lake from July 5 to September 8, keeping both kids and adults company for a fun summer in Hualien. Every half hour from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, catch Taiwan’s first-ever laser water curtain light show. Set against a dazzling night sky, with water jets as brushes, the show weaves music, lasers, LED lights, and projections into ever-changing displays on the water curtains, adding another must-visit summer hotspot.

Businesses around Liyu Lake have also seen increased foot traffic thanks to the red-faced duck family. Popular options like swan boats and small yachts let visitors get a closer view of the ducks on the lake, making for great photo opportunities. Coupled with the Hualien Summer Love Carnival, there will be many live music performances in downtown Hualien through July 13. This summer, visitors to Hualien can enjoy a variety of exciting activities.
