With the arrival of summer vacation, spots in Chishang such as the Boulevard of Bromo and the Tree of Offering Tea, which gained fame through advertisements, have once again become popular tourist destinations. As it is currently the farmers’ harvest season, the influx of tourists and their unrestrained behavior have even led to damage to local farmland crops, angering the hardworking farmers.

Regarding the whirlwind impact of the advertisement, which also affected the lives of Chishang residents, EVA Air Chairman Chang Kuo-wei and General Manager Cheng Chuan-yi personally visited Taitung on July 7. In addition to expressing apologies to County Magistrate Huang Jian-ting, Chishang Township Chief Lin Wen-tang, village chiefs of Jinyuan, Wan’an, and Jiansing, as well as the farmers, they also announced that EVA Air flights departing from Taiwan will give priority to using “Chishang Rice” for in-flight meals. They will also sponsor Taitung County Government to launch the “Chishang Countryside Sightseeing Bus” starting July 16, and continue to support the Tree of Offering Tea service. They hope to give back to the local community through corporate efforts. While signing several future cooperation agreements with Taitung County Government, EVA Air once again called on tourists to cherish this land and jointly preserve the beauty of Chishang.

EVA Air Chairman Chang Kuo-wei stated: “Out of our love for Taiwan, we insisted on including Taiwan’s beautiful scenery in the advertisement. We are very grateful for the public’s enthusiastic response to the I SEE YOU advertisement. Chishang in Taitung has become a famous attraction, but a small number of tourists have actually gone into the rice fields to take photos and trampled on the rice ears, causing distress to Chishang’s farmers. Such incidents are definitely not what we wish to see, especially when seeing on TV the hard-earned results of the farmers being ruined, it is truly heartbreaking. The tranquility and beauty of Chishang are hard-won and need to be jointly maintained by everyone to allow this paradise to continue indefinitely.”

To effectively reduce the impact on the local area of Chishang, EVA Air and Taitung County Government discussed and expressed their hope to use corporate strength to actively assist in improving community order. EVA Air announced that in addition to prioritizing the use of Chishang Rice for all flights departing from Taiwan, starting July 16, EVA Air will provide ten “Chishang Countryside Sightseeing Buses” to serve as shuttle buses for parking areas outside the main roads, connecting various key attractions in Chishang to facilitate smooth travel for visitors and enhance the local tourism experience.
Finally, to convey Taiwan’s unique warmth of human connection, since the end of August last year, EVA Air has commissioned residents of Wan’an Village to regularly offer tea under the tree of Takeshi Kaneshiro. This tea offering activity will continue to be promoted, with daily service during the summer vacation period (July–August), and twice daily scheduled services on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays starting September.
